THE EROTICISM OF STEFAN MAY

Born in Germany in 1962, Stefan May discovered his passion for photography after studying medicine.
He first documented skin diseases using a Leica and a ring flash for archival purposes. Later, he moved to Sydney, where he worked as an assistant to fashion and beauty photographers. Eventually, he decided to fully dedicate himself to photography, working internationally for prestigious magazines such as Leica Fotografie International, Black & White Australia, Photo Italia, GQ, Vogue, and for clients like IBM, Lancaster, Coty Cosmetics, and Davidoff.

His work—available in an exclusive online archive—covers themes such as beauty, the human body, portraits, celebrities, animals, and landscapes. However, he is best known for his sensual black-and-white photographs of women and couples.

We live in an era where privacy is more illusion than reality. We’ve gotten used to being seen and to watching, to sharing without realizing how much ground we’re giving up. We post what we eat, where we are, who we’re with, what we think, how we feel… and most of the time, we don’t even stop to consider who might be watching from the other side.

And it’s not just strangers. It could be someone unexpected, someone who shouldn’t be there, or someone who simply keeps a piece of you without you knowing. In a world where everything is recorded, captured, and stored, the question isn’t if someone is watching—it’s who.
