THEY'RE BECOMING MORE REALSetting that aside—how society often
shames men for masturbating while
women get praised—the purchase and use of
real dolls is still tied to a supposed
sexual perversion. It props up that simplistic idea that
women are just objects for men, skipping over the
social and
biological layers behind
human interactions.
Talking about real dolls is still pretty
taboo. Publicly, people
shut it down, but it’s not that different from
male masturbation in general. Very few
admit it openly, even though we all know
everyone does it. (And yes, I’ll die on this hill:
the loudest critics are usually the ones who
do it the most.)
That said, the
level of realism some companies are hitting with these dolls is
wild. And while I get that the
ideal buyer is a fairly
specific profile—because, let’s be real, you’re not
hiding one of these in a
nightstand drawer—it also makes sense that
more and more men are willing to drop a few
thousand dollars on one of these
hyper-realistic companions.
