THE PIANO AND MUSCLE MEMORY
To play the piano, the guitar, or any other instrument, it’s not enough to have
ear or talent. You need an
obscene amount of practice hours until you reach a point where your hands start moving on their own. Not because the muscles “remember,” but because your brain has shifted control from
the conscious to the automatic. That’s what we call
muscle memory, even though the memory isn’t in your fingers, but in
neural circuits that get fine-tuned through repetition. At first, you think about
every note and every movement. It’s
slow and clumsy. Years later, you do the same thing without even realizing it.
When a skill is sufficiently automated, you
free up mental bandwidth. That’s why a pianist can play a complex piece while at the same time
thinking about the next part, adjusting expression, improvising, or fixing
micro-errors. It’s not magic. It’s that
the basics no longer consume resources. It’s on
autopilot.
This doesn’t only happen with music. It happens with everything: driving, writing, typing without looking, speaking a language. Your brain has
two modes running at the same time: an
automatic one that executes what it already masters and a
conscious one that observes and learns new things. And yes: you can do something on autopilot and
keep learning at the same time. In fact, that’s how you
actually get better.
The trap is
getting stuck in autopilot. If you never step out of it,
you don’t improve. It’s what happens to a lot of people who’ve been playing for years, but in reality have
one year repeated many times. To keep moving forward, you have to bring back
conscious difficulty, feel clumsy again, and
force new things. That’s when the brain
starts growing again.
So yeah,
“muscle memory” exists, the brain
automates what you repeat, that
frees up mental resources and lets you
refine what you do. But if you only run on autopilot,
you stay where you are. Simple as that.

TIK HOT VOL229
First Tik Hot of the year and definitely not the last one.
Basically because I’ve got
a whole pantry of videos from this theme saved up, and I keep dropping them for you
little by little, like someone rationing ammo in the middle of a very specific war.
I’m like that
fruit tree that never stops giving you something to bite into.
Maybe the harvest isn’t going great, the rains don’t help, a
pig plague wipes out your hogs and the chickens stop laying eggs from one day to the next…
but your fruit tree is still there.
Standing.
Faithful.
Giving you something to hold onto when everything else starts to
go to shit.
When the week looks rough, when work drains your soul, when life treats you like an
NPC with no side quests…
you come here and you know that
something good is about to drop.
I don’t fix your problems.
I don’t pay your bills.
I don’t fix things with your ex or give you back the hair you lost in your 30s.
But I give you
a few minutes of escape, a
dumb little grin, a “okay, not everything is that bad.”
And that, my friend, on certain days,
is worth gold.
So yeah.
Another Tik Hot added to the collection.
And
many more to come.
Because as long as I keep stacking weird, suggestive and absurdly hypnotic videos…
you’ll keep having
your own personal fruit tree to come scratch at when everything else fails. 🍑🔥
