Humans have been getting naked for thousands of years. At first glance, it might seem like an activity with very little room for innovation: you’re dressed, you take your clothes off, and you’re not dressed anymore. Conceptually, there doesn’t seem to be much more to it.

But we’ve managed to incorporate dances, costumes, choreography, jumps, spins, camera cuts, camera movements, and all kinds of transitions, turning something as simple as taking off a shirt and a pair of pants into a small audiovisual production.

Some appear fully dressed and one second later they’re naked. Others use a spin, a jump, a sheet, a door, or pretty much anything lying around to make their clothes disappear. And some go as far as putting together an entire choreography just to reach exactly the same destination.

Trends, songs, filters, and transitions may change. But there are some traditions we know perfectly well how to adapt to modern times.

The internet changes at a ridiculous pace. What's trending today is forgotten tomorrow. Social media platforms come and go, apps replace one another, and algorithms decide what we're supposed to see.

We first discovered Stéphane Lépine’s work in late 2014, and more than a decade later, he remains one of those artists whose work is worth revisiting from time to time.

Born in France and currently based in Germany, Stéphane Lépine is a difficult creator to categorize. Painter, illustrator, photographer... his work moves effortlessly between different artistic disciplines, using each one as a different way to express his creativity.
